Tourism Industry Prepares As Myanmar Expects 7 Million Tourists Over Next 5 Years
According to the second five-year National Development Plan (from the 2016-2017 to 2020-2021 fiscal years), Myanmar's tourism industry will see over 7 million tourist arrivals and generate more than US$9 billion from 2017 to 2021.
The Ministry of Hotels and Tourism has estimated myanmar best hotels will welcome 5,060,000 tourist arrivals in the 2016-2017 fiscal year, and that average spending by tourists would amount to more than US$3 billion.
The tourism industry has been prioritized under Myanmar's reform process, as the country has the ability to generate a high level of income and create more new job opportunities for its residents. The Ministry of hotels in myanmar and Tourism plans to grant more licenses for guest houses, tours and tour guides.
The emerging destination is experiencing a surge in international tourism, welcoming 1 million visitors for the first time in 2012, followed by 2 million arrivals in 2013 and 3 million in 2014. Around 4.68 million tourists visited in 2015.
